A new standard for China's oil fume purifiers is being revised and is about to be released. Currently, the main standard for oil fume purifiers in China is the mandatory national standard "Emission Standard for Oil Fume in Catering Industry" (GB18483-2001).

Currently, the main standard for oil fume purifiers in China is the mandatory national standard "Emission Standard for Oil Fume in Catering Industry" (GB18483-2001). All such products must obtain national environmental protection product certification (CCEP certification) to prove compliance with this national standard before they can be sold. This standard stipulates the maximum allowable emission concentration of oil fume in catering establishments and oil fume purification equipment minimum removal efficiency - the percentage of oil fume removed after treatment by the purification equipment compared to the amount of oil fume before purification. According to the standard, the oil fume purification equipment minimum removal efficiency limit for catering establishments is divided into three levels: large, medium, and small, with a maximum allowable emission concentration of 2 mg per cubic meter. The minimum removal efficiency for large, medium, and small catering establishments is 85%, 75%, and 60%, respectively. The standard also stipulates that catering establishments emitting oil fume must install oil fume purification equipment and ensure that it operates as required during operation. Unorganized emission of oil fume is considered exceeding the standard.
Ma Yongliang pointed out that when this standard was formulated, the focus was on the emission requirements of oil fume, mainly addressing the problem of oil fume emission disturbing residents. However, the impact of oil fume emission on the atmospheric environment was relatively less considered, including the odor problem of oil fume emission and VOC (volatile organic compounds) emission, which lacked strict limits. Currently, China has launched the revision of this standard, and odor and VOC indicators will be considered in the new standard, playing a more standardized role in the development of oil fume purifiers. It is also hoped that the country will fully consider these new characteristics when promoting oil fume purifiers to prevent products from not meeting the new requirements, resulting in new functions not being used.
